15th Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta

2011 Summer Sailing Camp

"A La Carte" format will again be offered this year.  Sailors must participate in a minimum of two one-week sessions, but the weeks do not have to be sequential.  Registration will be limited to HYC members until April 17th.

 

BEGINNER OPTI CLASS
The 2011 beginner class is for students who have little or no experience on the water.  Couse includes basics of rigging a boat, sailing fundamentals, basic boat hand;ing. seasmanship (knots, weather, etc.), water safety and sportsmanship.  Students may participate in Junior Regattas in Opti and 420 fleets.  Must be 8 years or older by August 31 to participate.

Generally, children 8 through 12 are in opti's and older students are in 420's.  Exceptions may be considered based on size, age and skill at the instructor's discretion. 

INTERMEDIATE OPTI CLASS

This program is designed for sailors who have completed the beginner level course and might be considering racing.  The course will revisit the basics taught in the beginner class. Students will sail longer and more challenging courses all while building confidence in their skills and knowlegde for a lifetime of fun on the water!

420

The 420 class is the most advanced program for junior sailors.  Sailors are taught the fundamentals of racing, including but not limited to: boat speed, boat handling, strategy and tactics, and use of trapeze and spinnakers.

Registration will be open to sailors who will be 8 years old by August 2010.

Sailors should arrive promptly and bring a Coast Guard approved Type III vest style life jacket with a whistle attached, sunscreen, a water bottle, towel and closed-toe water shoes with arch straps and heel straps or an old pair of sneakers - (no crocs, flip-flops or open-toe tevas).  Sunglasses and hat are optional.  Open to all levels ages 8-18.

Rates:
Members: $220 for 2 week session (M-F), $110 each additional 5 day session

Non-members: $280 for 2 week session (M-F), $140 each additional 5 day session

* The week of July 4th will be a 4-day week with fees $90/4 days HYC members and $120/4 days non-members.
